Road Trip 2013 has begun

The father and son road trip has begun. We didn't exactly get an early start, around 11:00 AM or so, but we finally did get on the road.

For the first 10 minutes of driving, I had to listen to Cole obsessing over whether or not he forgot anything that he might need. I finally had to threaten to kick him out of the car and make him walk home. After the threat, he calmed down and we happily chatted back and forth with each other.

For most of the day it alternated between light rain and snow. We listened to Rooster Teeth podcasts and music from Cole's ipod, talked, and just enjoyed the drive.

We finally stopped for lunch around 1:30 or so. We had lunch at a little diner called Sams in Kellog Idaho. It was your typical small town diner. It was small but cozy and nice. The waitress was very friendly and attentive. I had a rueben sandwich and a cup of chili and Cole had something called a Bob's burger dip, which was essentially a french dip but used ground beef instead of shaved sirloin, and a cup of chili. The Sandwiches were quite good. According to the menu, all their soups and chili were homemade. The chili was ok, but in my opinion was lean on meat and a bit heavy on the beans.

After lunch we got back on the road. I listened to music and Cole played Nintendo DS. Even though we didn't drive all that long or far today, I decided to stop for the night in Ritzville, WA. The hotel is a Best Western and check this out, the TV remote was in a little cloth bag that said Fresh Remote. I have never seen that before.

The plan for tomorrow is to drive to Portland, OR and stay the night there. For some reason, Cole wants to spend some time looking around Portland.

From what the hotel clerk said, and another hotel guest that was also checking into the hotel, it sounded like the mountain passes we just drove over in Idaho, were getting quite a bit of snow so I am glad we made it through when we did. My car doesn't exactly have the best tires for snow.

That is it for day one of the trip. From time to time, Cole will be adding his comments and views on the trip, to the blog. That should prove to be quite entertaining. Now its time to relax and maybe harass Cole a little.
